Dia de la Marmota Freebie

February 2nd is Groundhog Day!  I guess because I didn't observe Groundhog Day, I never spend much time on it during class.  Now, I do try to spend at least one or two days discussing the importance of this tradition in the United States.  When you think about it, Groundhog Day has a pretty interesting origin.  It turns out that this was a way to use nature way for predicting the weather.  As you all know, if it's sunny and the groundhog sees his shadow, its a sign of 6 more weeks of winter and it goes back to his hole.  If it's cloudy and the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, it's a sign of spring and it comes out above ground.

In this freebie unit, I have included a mini book that you can use to discuss what Groundhog Day is all about.

While it's Groundhog Day, take advantage and learn a little bit more about groundhogs too!
If you need a little something to supplement your Groundhog Day lesson, download this freebie.
